City of Hollywood COVID-19 Update

Wednesday, March 26, 2020

The City is diligently monitoring the development of COVID-19 and is taking the necessary precautions for the safety and well-being of our community. We are working closely with local and state officials and remain vigilant in following the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Florida Department of Health guidelines.

EMERGENCY ORDER TO SHELTER IN PLACE
ISSUED BY BROWARD COUNTY

Broward County issued Emergency Order 20-03 today, announcing a Shelter-in-Place: Safer at Home Policy for residents. This order applies to all cities in Broward County including Hollywood.  All individuals are strongly urged to remain home other than to engage or patronize essential businesses or conduct essential activities (which are defined as the minimum activities necessary to conduct minimum business operations).

Under the order, individual daily outdoor exercise that complies with social distancing guidelines as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is permitted.

Residents and business owners/operators should read the full Emergency Order for details on essential businesses. All businesses that continue to operate throughout the COVID-19 crisis must operate in full compliance with CDC social distancing guidelines.

Additionally, today's Emergency Order defines “essential employees.” The list includes first responders, public health workers, emergency management personnel, emergency dispatchers, law enforcement personnel and related contractors, persons working for emergency services providers, and governmental employees performing work in the course and scope of their employment.

Essential employees are exempt from any travel or other restrictions relating to COVID-19 that are issued by any local governmental entity, to the extent those activities are required for the employee to complete their duties.

N95 respirator protective device donations needed

Request for Donations of
N95 respirator protective devices

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization has declared a global shortage of N95 respirator protective devices, which are typically used by first responders and those in healthcare industry to filter airborne particles. N95 masks are considered an essential tool in the healthcare industry as they block almost 95% of all microbes. These masks are often used by dentists, ophthalmologists and construction workers on job sites. Vice President Mike Pence has requested construction companies who may have a stockpile of masks to consider donating them to help protect our healthcare workers. To learn how you can donate your supply of N95 masks, please email Lissette Dominguez in the City of Hollywood’s Development Services Division or call 954.921.3335 ext. 6610.
