The United States Census Bureau released the 2020 Census Data on August 12, 2021. The 2020 census data will provide the basis for Broward County to complete its required “redistricting.” Redistricting is the process of drawing boundaries for political districts and is required to be done, at a minimum, every 10 years after the census. Redistricting re-balances districts to account for population shifts, thus ensuring equal representation.
Broward County retained experts from Florida International University (FIU), including Dr. Dario Moreno and Dr. Maria Ilcheva, to prepare the County’s redistricting maps based upon the 2020 census data. More information is available at Broward.org/redistricting.
Public input is very important to the redistricting process. Broward County and FIU have scheduled community meetings in locations across Broward County to educate the public on the redistricting process and receive community input.
