Safe Route to School
The Florida Safe Route to School Program helps communities fund projects to improve their transportation needs and encourage more students to walk or bike to school. The Safe Route to School program focuses on children in grades kindergarten through high school with projects that are pedestrians and bicyclists oriented.

2014 Safe Route To School Grant Program

As part of the 2014 Safe Route to School Grant Program, the Florida Department of Transportation funded approximately $508,000 worth of sidewalk improvements in the City of Hollywood
 
Improvement area included neighborhoods bound by Fletcher Street to the South, Washington Street to the North, S. 29th Avenue to the West and S. 24th Avenue to the East.

Project Scope

The project consists of approximately 13,140 linear feet of new 5-foot wide concrete sidewalks to fill in missing links along 25 different blocks of City streets within proximity of Colbert Elementary School and McNichol Middle School.

New Sidewalk Locations are as follows:

Dewey Street: 28th Ave to 29th Ave – North side of street
Dewey Street: 26th Ave to 28th Ave – South side of street

Funston Street: 26th Ave to 29th Ave – North side of street
Fletcher Street: 24th Ave to 25th Ave – North side of the street
Rodman Street: 28th Ave to 29th Ave – North side of street
Mayo Street: 28th Ave to 29th Ave – North side of street

Plunkett Street: 28th Ave to 29th Ave – North side of street
Plunkett Street: 27th Ave to 25th Ave – South side of street
 
Wiley Street: 26th Ave to 25th Ave – South side of the street
Wiley Street: 29th Ave to 26th Ave – North side of street
Wiley Court: 26th Ave to 24th Ave – North side of the street
 
24th Avenue: Pembroke Road to Fletcher St – West side of street
24th Avenue: Fletcher St to Rodman St – East side of street

2016 Safe Route to School Grant Program

 

As part of the 2016 Safe Route to School Grant Program, the Florida Department of Transportation will be funding approximately $765,407 of sidewalk improvements in the City of Hollywood.

The scope of this project consists of approximately 13,225 linear feet of new 5-foot wide concrete sidewalks to fill in missing links along 26 different blocks of City streets within the North Central Neighborhood. The project area is within the proximity of Avant Garde Academy of Broward School, Oakridge Elementary School, Beachside Montessori School and Dowdy Field. The construction timeframe of this project is October 2022 through August 2023

New Sidewalk Locations are as follows:

 

1.    Wilson Street: North side of the street from North 26th Avenue to Dixie Highway

2.    North 25th Avenue: West side of the street from Arthur Street to the alley between Arthur Street and Cleveland Street, and the east side from that point north to Wilson Street

3.    Roosevelt Street: South side of the street from North 23rd Avenue to Dixie Highway

4.    Cleveland Street: South side of the street from North 24th Avenue to Dixie Highway

5.    Arthur Street: North side of the street from North 24th Avenue to North 22nd Avenue, and the south side from that point to Dixie Highway

6.    Garfield Street: South side from North 26th Avenue to just east of North 22nd  Avenue

7.    Hayes Street: North side from North 26th Avenue to North 25th Avenue, then the south side to North 24th Avenue, and then north side to North 22nd Avenue

8.    Grant Street: North side from North 26th Avenue to North 22nd Avenue

9.    North 25th Avenue: East side from Johnson Street to Arthur Street
